Carroll Hall Shelby, the famous racecar driver and automotive designer liable for the Shelby Cobra and high-performance carmaker Shelby American, gave up the ghost Thursday at age 89, in line with USA Today.
During his career, which spanned some 60 years, Shelby was answerable for making a string of iconic vehicles, from the unique 1962 AC Cobra the entire solution to the present 2013 Ford Shelby GT500, that's certified because the strongest regular-production vehicle on the planet. Shelby American continues to sell and convey modified Ford Mustangs, including the GT500 Super Snake.
Shelby is survived by his three children, Patrick, Michael and Sharon; his sister, Anne Shelby Ellison; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and his wife, Cleo, in keeping with Shelbyautos.com.
