Bradford Bulls say they'll exit of economic unless they raise £1m, with at the least half needed by mid-April.
The club is urging fans to pledge £100 each to clear their debts.
The four-time Super League champions sold the lease at their Odsal ground to the Rugby Football League in January.
Chairman Peter Hood said: "If we havent got cash then we cant stay alive and if we cant stay alive then we cant fulfil our fixtures. Its that serious."
A statement on the clubs website read: "The RFL stadium deal only enabled us to deal with our long-term liabilities but couldn't help us stave off the grave financial situation."
The club have written to season-ticket holders, members and sponsors inquiring for their support.
Bradford won their last title in 2005 and feature also won five Challenge Cups, but a scarcity of contemporary on-field success has compounded their financial problems.
The statement added: " With out a play-off football for the last three seasons, the most important and deepest recession this country has experienced in living memory, sponsorship income increasingly difficult to come back by - indeed dropping to an all time low - and our bankers loss of ongoing support, we've almost reached the top of the road."
