Wiggins overcomes puncture to win

Bradley Wiggins overcame a puncture to win the primary road stage of the Tour de Romandie and take the race lead.

It was a second successive stage win for Team Sky after Geraint Thomass victory in Tuesdays opening prologue.

Wiggins edged ahead in a sprint finish on the end of the 184.5km (114.7-mile) route from Morges to La Chaux-de-Fonds.

"I had quite a lot of adrenaline once I punctured with 25k to move. When that happened the men dropped back for me and did an amazing job, he said.

Talking to the Team Sky website,  he added: "Then within the final i used to be variety of alone and marshalling everything and that i just desired to pay them back for everything theyd done, they were incredible.

"Ive got them to thank and it was very nice that allows you to finish it off like that.

"i need to win Romandie, thats of course. Ill take what i'm able to daily and its very nice to win a sprint like this because normally I only ever really win time trials."

Lieuwe Westra was second with Paolo Tiralongo third as Wiggins took the race leaders jersey by seven seconds from Sky team-mate Michael Rodgers.

Having recovered from his puncture the British national champion hit front just 400m from the road to secure victory.
