With its redesign for 2013, Lexus reworked the GS' handling, exterior looks and interior quality. The midsize sedan seats five and backseat passengers will benefit from the heated outboard seats â" assuming they're not strapped into child-safety seats.
For the auto Seat Check, we use a Graco SnugRide 30 rear-facing infant-safety seat, a Britax Roundabout convertible child-safety seat and a Graco high-back TurboBooster seat.
The front seats are adjusted to a cosy position for a 6-foot driver and a 5-foot-8 passenger. The 3 child seats are installed within the second row. The booster seat sits behind the driving force's seat, and the child seat and convertible seats are installed behind the passenger seat. We also install the baby seat within the second row's middle seat with the booster and convertible within the outboard seats to determine if three car seats will fit. If there's a 3rd row, we install the booster seat and a forward-facing convertible.
Here's how the 2013 GS did in Cars.com's Car Seat Check:
Latch system: Two sets of lower Latch anchors are present in the outboard seats. They're somewhat difficult to take advantage of since the anchors are buried between the seat cushions. The giant inboard seat bolsters â" closest to the center seat â" make it hard to access the internal Latch anchors. Traditional Latch connectors, that are on our infant-safety seat, are easier to exploit within the GS than the bulkier rigid connectors. Thankfully, the 3 tether anchors, which sit behind the top restraints at the rear shelf, are easy to apply.
Booster seat: Though i used to be complaining concerning the large seat bolsters when it came to Latch access, they didn't cause issues of our high-back booster seat. The outboard seat belt buckles are stable, making them easy for children to make use of all alone. The center seat's buckle is floppy.
Convertible seat: Both the forward- and rear-facing convertibles fit well within the GS. The backseat had loads of room for the rear-facing convertible, but parents should note that the GS' rear seats don't recline.
Infant-safety seat: This rear-facing seat also fit well, without having to head front passenger seat forward.
How many car seats slot in the second one row- Two
Editor's note: For 3 car seats â" infant-safety seat, convertible and booster seats â" to slot in a car, our criterion is that a toddler sitting within the booster seat need to be capable of reach the seat belt buckle. Parents must also keep in mind that they are able to use the Latch system or a seat belt to put in a car seat.
