Pack display crucial warns Muller

Johann Muller says Ulster must match the ability of Munsters pack to have any chance of causing a Heineken Cup upset in Limerick on Sunday.

Munster and Leinster were Irelands dominant forces in Europe in recent seasons, but Ulster believe they're getting in the direction of their rivals.

"We all know their pack may want to dominate," said Muller.

"They're a great scrummaging side and that they have a good line-out. We've got to compare them or we are going to lose."

Ulster reached the quarter-finals last year, for the primary time since winning the tournament in 1999, but lost away to Northampton.

The Ravenhill club have invested heavily on overseas talent like Muller and scrum-half Ruan Pienaar in an be regular challengers on the top table of European rugby.

South African lock Muller says the margins between success and failure could be tight in major cup clashes.

"Quarter-finals, semi-finals and finals are all concerning the small things," added Muller.

"It's all about ensuring you do the little things very well. Normally if you happen to do this, the scoreboard and the end result will preserve itself.

"Obviously first phase is prime, especially against a facet like Munster."

Muller was heartened by performance of the Ulster forwards in Fridays 45-7 Pro12 win over Aironi on Friday night.

"We lost two line-outs, but our scrum was wonderful.

"Rory, Tom and John did a superior job up front and the back five put their hands up to boot.

"But we all know the animal we're playing next week is a completely different one. We have to do our homework this week and ensure we plan accordingly."
