Mackay hails \'huge\' Cardiff win

Cardiff City manager Malky Mackay has described his sides 2-0 victory at Middlesbrough within the Championship as a "huge" win.

The Bluebirds secured only their second win in 11 matches following first-half goals from Ben Turner and Joe Mason on the Riverside.

But despite returning to the play-off places Mackay says there's still numerous work before his side.

"Theres numerous points still to play for," Mackay said.

"Weve just got to make certain we concentrate on ourselves and check out and be hard to conquer and ensure we stay calm."

"Theres a number of clubs with numerous work still to do. Were delighted to be among them."

Mackay said Cardiff were fully deserving of victory over promotion rivals Middlesbrough but felt his side must have added to their two first-half goals.

"[Were] delighted to have arise here to a promotion rival and a terrific team who were always going to be difficult to play against and are available away with a clean sheet," said Mackay.

"[We scored] two good goals and on another day shall we have scored more. I felt we were real within your means for it.

"i believed we caused problems within the channels and Joe [Mason] right on half time had a one on one with the goalkeeper, who just had a hand to it before it creeps over the road to make it three.

"i assumed we kept the ball [and] passed the ball well within the first-half.

"We certainly can have had a number of goals within the second half. If wed just been a little more careful in possession wed have made it easier for ourselves."

Mackay felt Middlesbrough must have been reduced to 10 men in the course of the opening minutes after striker Kenny Miller was hauled down by goalkeeper Jason Steele.

Miller was forced off the sector with a knee injury while Steele and Middlesbrough escaped any sort of punishment from referee Kevin Friend.

"i believe it was a true poor decision," said Mackay. "Kenny goes through [and] just gets to the ball before the goalkeeper.

"The goalie cleans him out [and] puts him up inside the air and hes [Miller] got a foul knee injury for the time being and is limping about.

"They didnt have a goalkeeper at the bench and Im sure that might definitely have affected them."
