MK Dons 0-2 Huddersfield

Huddersfield took a giant step towards the League One play-off final with a deserved semi-final first leg victory at MK Dons.

Jordan Rhodes struck midway during the first half, guiding his header beyond Dons keeper David Martin.

Dean Lewington missed a very good chance to level from four yards out before Lee Novak squandered a chance to double the Terriers lead.

But Jack Hunts well-taken finish gave the away side a two-goal cushion.

The play-offs had been unkind to either side in past campaigns - MK have didn't transcend the semi-finals in three attempts, while the Terriers have fallen short on the post-season stage within the last two campaigns.

Jordan Rhodes went into the sport against MK Dons and not using a goal in his previous five appearances. His last goal completed a hat-trick in a three-1 win at Leyton Orient on 3 April.

Eventually MK, who were wanting ideas all afternoon, were made to pay and it was courtesy of a moment of the best quality.

There has been still time for Bennett to drag off a pointy save from a Jabo Ibehre header deep into injury time.

"Were obviously delighted weve won the sport, but more importantly with the extent of performance weve installed.

"We worked extremely hard during the last 10 days or so on our game plan and each individual stuck to it.

Black Caviar claims 21st victory

Australian sprinter Black Caviar stretched her record unbeaten run to 21 by winning the gang One Goodwood at Morphettville, Adelaide.

It was the five-year-olds final race before flying to England for Junes Diamond Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot.

Jockey Luke Nolen, who eased the mare to victory by greater than a length, said: "We were never out of second gear."

Earlier within the week, trainer Peter Moody rejected claims that Black Caviar needed to prove herself at Royal Ascot.

When it was suggested to him that his mare had not beaten any major international horses in Australia, Moody replied: "You've got never seen anything like this horse before.

The global sprint challenge is a ten-race series in six countries. Three races manifest in England - Junes Kings Stand Stakes and Diamond Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot and the Darley July Cup at Newmarket

"It might be an absolute tragedy if she went there [to Ascot] and got beaten by your B-grade sprinters for half the prize money and [travelling] three-quarters of how world wide."

Moody also warned that he does not run Black Caviar if she was not 100% fit following her flight to England.

"If I take her each of the excess of there and she or he shouldn't be right I wont run her for the sake of running," he said.

Black Caviar was installed as favourite by bookmakers for the race, prior to local sprinters Bated Breath and Hoof It.

The mare may also run at Newmarket on Bastille Day within the July Cup, another leg of the worldwide Sprint Challenge.

Serena Williams will play world no 1 Victoria Azarenka in Sundays final of the Madrid Open when they both enjoyed straightforward last-four wins.

Leicester have England half-back duo Toby Flood and Ben Youngs back from injury to stand Saracens.

The fixture marks final Tigers appearances at Welford Road for Horacio Agulla, George Skivington, Billy Twelvetrees and Alesana Tuilagi.

This has happened in a remarkable season that has seen the Tigers languish second from bottom, shorn of internationals and limp with injuries, to roar their approach to finish the regular season second from top.

Saturday might be their eighth successive Premiership play-off semi-final - and the side have never lost a house game at this stage.

Compared, Saracens have made the last three play-offs but will take confidence from their recent visits to LE2, despite the Tigers being seriously under strength in September by using World Cup call-ups.

But there's a school of thought in some quarters that Sarries gameplan isn't very quite as effective because it once was.

While their set-pieces, especially their line-out, remains to be very dependable, their tactics have, occasionally, been found wanting.

Sarries are missing a fine back-row trio in Kelly Brown, Jacques Burger and Andy Saull through injury and their loss was felt.

Hamilton beats Maldonado to pole

McLarens Lewis Hamilton took pole position on the Spanish Grand Prix earlier than the surprise pairing of Pastor Maldonado and Fernando Alonso.

Hamilton was an incredible 0.578 seconds quicker than Maldonados Williams, with Alonsos improved Ferrari just missing out on a front-row slot.

Sebastian Vettel was eighth after not setting a time within the final session.

McLarens Jenson Button and Vettels Red Bull team-mate Mark Webber were 11th and 12th.

They missed out for various reasons - Button was suffering from the handling of his car and Webber since the team erroneously thought his first lap will be quick enough to get him through.

Team boss Christian Horner said: "We thought wed just done enough."

Both Hamilton and Alonso said that they had done "perfect" laps to secure their positions.

"i believe fantastic," Hamilton said. "You could always be at liberty with pole but youre always searching for that perfect lap, and that i really felt I got everything out of the auto.

"Everything was really sweet, I didnt miss any apexes and thats an important experience, but tomorrow goes to be a tricky race. Its going to be about taking care of your tyres and getting the correct pit stops and being patient."

Hamilton delighted with best ever pole

Alonso, who was driving a car with a lot of upgrades, added: "We did a leap forward, I dont know the way much because i suspect P3 is over-performing.

"i used to be really comfortable with the lap, it was perfect, i'll fit 100 more sets of tyres and never do better."

Maldonados second position was by far the appropriate performance of his career, and it underlines Williamss return to form this season after a variety of difficult seasons .

"We now have been working so hard looking to understand these tyres and to develop our car around these tyres," Maldonado said.

"We did an outstanding leap forward for this race. There's a great atmosphere within the factory and team. The automobile looks fantastic especially on race pace."

All of the teams were struggling to get the ideal out of the tyres The race may be won and lost and tyre wear and strategy - and that explains why Vettel is to this point down.

He'll probably start at the tougher hard tyre - teams ought to use both forms of tyre within the race - and Red Bull have gambled as a way to be a higher strategy in the end.

"Are we in a time now when the tyres are so critical that no-one pushes for grid position in qualifying and everybody just concentrates at the 66 laps of the race instead?"

Vettel said: "There's nothing is incorrect. We decided to abort the lap to have a free selection of tyres for the race.

"We were slightly surprised how much of a step the others could do. But Im quite confident for race, we always have an excellent race car. Now we have a few new sets (of tyres) which has proved successful for others in previous races this year."

Button have been fastest in Friday practice but found his car transformed from the beginning of Saturday.

He said: "I dont know (where it went wrong). All day i've struggled with the balance, yesterday the automobile was fantastic, i assumed wed be quick enough today, at the very least get into Q3. Ive struggled with a completely different balance.

"Then in qualifying I struggled with oversteer after which once I added more front end I had understeer. I dont know whats happening.

"The speeds within the car I just dont know whats taking place with mine."

Red Bull trio consider difficult session

Lotus drivers Romain Grosjean and Kimi Raikkonen were fourth and fifth fastest sooner than Saubers Sergio Perez.
