After leading the Premier League race for many of the season, Platt attributed their current predicament more to Uniteds good form than a collapse on their part.

"We started out the season exceptionally well up until the turn of the year," he told Sportsweek.

"From then individuals are talking a couple of collapse but i feel you could have just got to carry your hands up and think about what Manchester United have done.

"Its a lovely run because the turn of the year.

"They've won quite a few games, they have got amassed the points and feature got themselves right into a situation where they've a very good-sized cushion.

"But with seven games to head it doesnt mean that it's completely over yet.

"Football has taught us that there are strange results that happen.

"In the event that they do drop points between now and the tip of the season - and wed want to think they may drop a minimum of three after they come to the Etihad - then we need to be capable with our remaining games that we will make the most it."

Platt also revealed that City manager Roberto Mancini is in regular contact with chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak and that he doesnt feel under any undue pressure.

He said: "Roberto has regular dialogue with the chairman - before every game and through the week to boot they have got constant dialogue."

And he added: "The pressure he puts on himself to succeed is much more than any outside pressure. Pressure only builds in case you allow it to get to you.

"In case you are not enjoying the placement you're at an advantage not being fascinated with it."
