Pietersen defends IPL decision

Kevin Pietersen has defended his decision to play within the Indian Premier League, arguing that it'll help him deal better with the original conditions within the sub-continent.

While his England team-mates enjoy a break after Sri Lanka, Pietersen has a freelance with the Delhi Daredevils.

He said: "i will be able to just spend hours inside the nets - I see it as a chance to only improve my playing of spin bowling and improving my technique."

England tour India later this year.

Pietersen, 31, is usually back on Test duty for England against the West Indies in May.

He has already been on two tours along with his country this year - to the United Arab Emirates where England played Pakistan, in addition Sri Lanka.

But other than worrying concerning the toll the busy calendar could have, Pietersen - who clubbed an excellent 151 and 42 not out in Englands eight-wicket win over Sri Lanka within the second Test - sees it as a big gamble to remain in form and enhance his technique.

"The beauty of the IPL is we go there and today, tomorrow afternoon, Tuesday... i'm able to just spend hours within the nets," he said.

"i believe its a major bonus, Im very lucky."
